Hello! | 5 Nights of Halloween Intro

Hello!

So this is it. The beginnings of a new blog. I've tried this before, but I'm doing something different. These posts aren't reviews, they're analyses. We're looking at the ideas in films and the various film making aspects with in them. We're looking at tension, and character, and framing, and colour, and emotion. It's the ideas behind the movies, not a review of them.

We're starting off with a series entitled "The 6 Nights of Halloween". We're looking at six modern horror films in the build up to Halloween. We're breaking down what makes these movies scary and the various things that they use to create horror.

We'll looking at It and how it uses character to build fear, how A Quiet Place uses sound to create tension, how The Cloverfield Trilogy uses the unknown to execute it's horror elements,  how Get Out derives tension from the unique perspective of its main character, and how you can learn to write the perfect ghost story from The Babadook.

I think it should be fun. We'll have to see.

  1. Interesting distinction between "review" and "analysis." Could one do both at the same time? How can I tell the difference as I am reading?
